ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAN PREDICT ELECTION RESULTS

INTRODUCTION

Artificial Intelligence has shown great potential in gauging voter sentiments and foretelling the name of the winner for the elections. Just the same way Artificial Intelligence used by many companies understands and evaluates the customer sentiments, it can also measure and estimate somewhat exactly “what’s on the minds of voters” to give clear results before the actual calculation. This is far better than exit polls and other methods that have been under use since the inception of the election processes for the prediction of the name of the winning party because they had many errors in their predictive outcomes.

WHAT DO AI EXPERTS THINK ABOUT IT?

Heidi Messer, Chairman of New York-based AI company Collective said that “No algorithm can predict human behaviour accurately all the time. But pollsters use historical classifications and averages which might produce some discrepancies. Polling needs a data source that can capture the actual behaviour of people just like Amazon does. Though Data reflecting behaviour is much harder to amass but infinitely more useful in dynamically identifying the patterns and correlations that fuel probabilistic predictions.

US PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS: A GREAT EXAMPLE OF AI ELECTION RESULT PREDICTION

During the US presidential elections, AI systems predicted that the Democratic Party’s Presidential Nominee Joe Biden would win 50.02% of votes and the Republican Party’s presidential candidate Donald Trump would get 47.3% of the popular votes which eventually turned out to be true with a 2.7% difference in actual and predictive calculations. Many AI companies also conducted surveys asking groups of people about the name of the winner and by judging the patterns of their answers they also predicted that Biden will be the next US President. If not perfect, AI is good enough to guess the momentum.

WHAT CAN BE DONE IN INDIA?

In India, the election processes are huge in numbers and AI might help us to predict in what hands our future lies and who is the chosen one. There are many ways of doing that, though the population of India is massive and diverse thus it might be a little tricky to guess accurately. Artificial Intelligence can tap into much insightful information for predicting election results such as gathering data on what voters say to their friends on social media about their preferable election candidates. It can be a very reliable reflection of what voters’ true opinions are. Because since many past decades we have experienced a wide disparity between pre-election polls and actual polls. AI can help. The way AI is finding applications in every aspect of our lives is a result of creative people trying to find solutions. Similarly, creative people are seen in the WORLD ROBOTICS CHAMPIONSHIP where young minds participate with their innovative AI-empowered Robots that can solve huge problems of humankind.
